Plans

A plan is one thing you sell. Individual plans have tiers. Team plans have a seat ladder.

Only owners can create or edit a plan. Every other role can read the list. A tab with more than ten plans shows ten a page. Use the arrows under the list, or choose more under Rows per page. A new search or another tab goes back to page one.

The important fields:

  • Display name — what members see.
  • Amount and currency — the price new members pay. A change reaches Stripe on its own: see Changing a price.
  • Newsletters included in this plan — what members on it receive. When the plan opens the archive, the same ticks decide which newsletters' back issues they read there. A member who switches a newsletter's emails off still reads its back issues. The agreed mapping is on Newsletters by tier. Get these right or people receive the wrong things.
  • Grants access to the newsletter archive (the Access box) — members on this plan can open the newsletter archive. Out of the box Fanatic, monthly Fanatic and every team plan have it ticked. The plan list marks those plans archive. The free Community plan cannot have it: expired memberships land there. Ticking it for Friend or Follower is safe: they see every headline, but read only the newsletters their plan includes, plus any an archive manager opened to everyone (Tidy the archive's newsletters).
  • First payment after (days) (the First payment box) — a delayed start, like a free trial. 0 means members pay when they join. Any other number: a new member can read at once and their card is charged that many days later, then every year (or month) as usual. The plan list marks such a plan free for N days, and the pricing page and checkout say First N days free and Free until …. See Free days before the first payment.
  • Show on pricing and Benefits — how the plan appears on the public pricing page. One benefit per line.

Free days before the first payment

Use First payment after (days) when PMPro's Subscription Delays add-on set one on the old level (the website's readiness page lists them), or for an offer such as "first 14 days free".

  1. Open the plan and press Edit.
  2. Type the number of days in First payment after (days).
  3. Press Save.

What members see and get:

  • The checkout says Free until the date, then the price, and the button reads Start membership. Nothing is charged that day.
  • They can read members-only articles straight away.
  • On the day, the card they used is charged. If the bank wants them to confirm, they get the same Confirm payment message as at any renewal. If the charge fails, the usual renewal retries follow.
  • Their member page shows Free until …, first payment then under the membership's end date.

What it does not do

  • Only an individual paid plan can have free days. A team plan or the free Community plan refuses it.
  • A change reaches people who join from then on. Members already on the plan keep their date.
  • Changing plan, a whitelisted or bank-paid membership and a gift never get free days. A gift recipient who carries on paying starts paying when the gift ends instead.
  • Card payments through Stripe only. A card that only the Thai Omise account takes cannot buy such a plan: the checkout asks for another card.
  • A discount code for the first payment still works: it comes off the first charge, on the day.

Changing the newsletters updates everyone already on the plan

Save a change and FMS re-syncs every current member of that plan with Mailchimp — it tells you how many. Anyone who switched a newsletter off for themselves stays off: adding it back to the plan never re-subscribes them. Saving without touching the newsletters changes nothing and re-syncs nobody.

A big plan asks first

When a change would update more than about 1,000 members, the editor asks Update newsletters for N members? before saving. Community has about 20,000. The updates go out in the background, a few at a time, and can take a while. The number is close, not exact.

  • Press Save and queue N updates to go ahead.
  • Press Go back to change nothing.

During a migration clean-up, wait. Edit plan newsletters once the Mailchimp clean-up has finished.

Ticking or unticking the archive takes effect straight away

Nothing is queued: the next time a member on the plan opens the archive, FMS answers with the new setting. The website can take up to five minutes to show or hide their Newsletter archive link. Someone already reading keeps their session until it ends (12 hours at most). A monthly plan has its own box, separate from the yearly one.

A new plan reads what its newsletters say

A new plan that opens the archive reads the back issues of the newsletters ticked on it, at once. Nobody in the archive has to act. A newsletter the archive does not know yet stays locked until an archive manager says which FMS newsletter it is.

Changing a price

Type the new amount and press Save. FMS saves it at once and says how many Stripe accounts it is updating. For each Stripe account that already has a price for the plan, FMS then:

  1. creates a new Stripe price at the new amount;
  2. makes it the price new members pay on that account;
  3. archives the old price in Stripe.

Members who already pay keep the price they signed up at. Stripe goes on renewing them at it. A member who changes plan, or whose card moves to another account, pays the new price from then on.

This takes a few seconds. Until it is done, Consolidation → Plan prices ↔ Stripe shows the plan as drifting and says Propagating to Stripe.

A live account needs live writes switched on

While the live Stripe write brake is on, Stripe refuses the new price. The local price is saved, and the change waits in Health → Dead letters. Consolidation shows Refused by Stripe. Once live writes are on, replay it there. A read-only connection is refused the same way: reconnect it with read-only unticked, then replay.

Team plans

A team plan's per-seat price comes from the seat ladder. Once a team plan has a Stripe price, its amount cannot be edited here. Use Tools → Rebuild team pricing.

A forever discount code was priced from the old amount. FMS drops that price too, and the next member who uses the code pays the discount off the new amount. Members already on the code keep their price. An open team-invoice request also holds a price: while one is open, the plan's price cannot be changed.

Prices on Opn

There is nothing to set on a plan for Opn Payments. Visa and Mastercard pay the plan's USD price there. JCB, American Express and UnionPay pay it in THB, converted at the Opn account's exchange rate and rounded. The rate, the rounding and any conversion-fee allowance are on the account's own page: see Local-currency pricing.

The plan list's Priced in column says Opn · from rate on a paid plan once an Opn account has a rate.

Members see the price their card type pays before they press Pay: the dollar price for Visa and Mastercard, the baht price with the rate and the dollar list price beside it for the other cards, and FMS charges only that amount. See Pricing and joining.

Opn prices typed by hand are gone

Until 15 October 2026 each plan had an Opn price typed in THB. Those prices were removed. Every THB price now comes from the USD price and the rate, so a change to the USD price reaches Opn too (an Opn member pays it from their next renewal).
