Install and activate
You'll need
A WordPress administrator login, and the plugin file fms-member-gate.zip.
- In WordPress go to Plugins. Add new, upload the zip, then activate it.

- A new item appears at Settings → FMS Membership.

- Open it. The banner at the top tells you who is currently in charge of members-only content.

- Leave FMS gating switched off for now.

The banner has three states
| Banner | Meaning |
|---|---|
| FMS gating is ON | FMS decides who reads what. This is the finished state. |
| FMS gating is OFF (PMPro in charge) | The old plugin is still running the gate. Normal before cutover. |
| FMS gating is OFF — but FMS is still enforcing the gate | Nothing else is gating content, so FMS keeps the lock on to be safe. Investigate. |
Why leave the switch off
The switch is the cutover. Everything else, connecting, mapping pages, importing members, is safe to do while the old plugin keeps running the site. Turning the switch on is the moment FMS takes over, and turning it off again is the way back.
Next: connect it to FMS.
The other two plugins
FMS Migration Assistant is the cutover wizard. Install it for the migration and delete it afterwards. FMS Test Rig only runs on practice sites and does nothing on a real one.
