Plugin troubleshooting

The connection test failed

Every message the test can return, and what to do, is in the table on Connect to FMS.

A member says they cannot read an article

Work down this list.

  1. Are they signed in? The commonest answer. Ask them to sign out and in again.
  2. Does FMS say they have access? Find them in Members. If the subscription is missing or cancelled, that is your answer.
  3. Is the post gated at the right level? Open it and read the FMS access box.
  4. Has their access just changed? WordPress remembers the answer for about five minutes. Wait, or sign out and in.
  5. Is FMS reachable? Press the connection test. If it fails, everything is locked because the outage setting says lock.

Raw shortcode text is showing on a page

Text like [fms_account] appearing to readers means the shortcode is not registered. Almost always the master switch is off. While it is off the plugin deliberately renders those shortcodes as nothing, so seeing the literal text means something else is printing it, such as a page builder widget holding the text rather than a real shortcode.

Everything is locked, including free posts

Check the banner at the top of the settings page. If it says gating is off but FMS is still enforcing the gate, nothing else is gating content and FMS is being cautious. Check whether the old plugin was deactivated before the switch was turned on.

The pricing page shows the wrong prices

Press Refresh plan catalog. WordPress caches the catalog on purpose.

Members-only content appeared in Google

That is usually the crawler bypass doing its job: verified search engines are allowed the full text so articles stay indexed. If it is not that, check whether the post is marked Always free.

Nothing here matches

Take a screenshot of the settings banner and the connection test result, and send both to Thomas. Those two together identify most problems immediately.
